The Robert Doyle and Matthew Guntharp Collection on Central Pennsylvania Fiddling includes 123 audio recordings, correspondence, application, fliers, release forms, contestant address lists, rules, song lists, press releases, budget reports, newspaper and magazine clippings, scorecards, and photographs. It also contains 50 recorded interviews with fiddlers (9 with transcripts) and materials documenting Penn State competitions. Also included are two Doyle manuscripts, one for "The fiddle maker and the repairman: Guy H. Meyer," which appeared in the 1976 issued of Pickin' and another for "In search of fiddlers and their tunes," which appeared in the 1982 issue of Perspective on film.

Historian Matthew G. Guntharp and lawyer Robert C. Doyle graduated from The Pennsylvania State University; both played in the bluegrass band, the Buffalo Chipkickers, helped organize the Penn State Fiddling Contest, and authored and introduced (respectively) the book, Learning the Fiddler's Ways.
